Summer Reading List

It's summer, and school is out, but reading doesn't have to be. Readers of all ages, from babies and toddlers to teens to adults, can sign up for our Summer Read and Learn program. You can also find great book suggestions for kids and teens by reading level or explore our Pinterest page for a variety of reading suggestions.

For our babies and toddlers, may we suggest Spectacular Spots by local children's book author Susan Stockdale? The fun text and images will keep children entertained, but more in-depth information is available as well in the back matter.

Bad News for Outlaws coverSecond grade readers might enjoy Bad News for Outlaws: the remarkable life of Bass Reeves, deputy U.S. Marshall written by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson and illustrated by R. Gregory Christie. This biography tells the story of a former slave who became a US Marshall in the area that would later become Oklahoma.

Nimona coverNimona by Noelle Stevenson is a graphic novel for middle school readers and above. Nimona's shapeshifting makes her the perfect sidekick for supervillain Lord Ballister Blackheart. But are they really the villains of this story and are the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics really the heroes?

Roomies coverRoomies by Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando is a novel about two girls from different backgrounds and different coasts who are randomly assigned as freshman roommates. The story explores their growing relationship as the two girls, who have never met, prepare for life at college.
