Kay Bowman, branch manager of the Gaithersburg branch, retired July 1 after 30 years with MCPL. She began her career as a part-time children’s Librarian at Bethesda branch in 1986. Later, she was the Children’s LII at Long Branch and Twinbrook branches before being promoted to branch manager at Aspen Hill. From there, she managed the Davis branch for ten years and then back to Bethesda for six years. She had the privilege of reopening the newly renovated Gaithersburg branch in January 2014. Kay was active in the Maryland Library Association (MLA) for most of her career and in addition to holding many leadership positions there was elected President of MLA in 2006.
Kay enjoys playing tennis, taking long walks, reading and watching movies. She is looking forward to the next phase of her life which will include volunteering in the community, taking classes, traveling and “smelling the roses.”
Andrea Castrogiovanni started with MCPL in 1993 as the oldest team member of White Oak's proud cadre of Pages. If someone had told her at the time, that working for MCPL would become a career—a "side job" metamorphosing into earning a MLS, working the Circulation and Information desks at numerous branches around the County and eventually becoming a Senior Librarian—she wouldn't have believed it. She finds the journey—from community library, Corrections and beyond—professionally interesting and challenging. In "real life," Andrea prefers remaining inconspicuous—perhaps mildly identifiable by a very-worn pair of hi-top Chucks—so you may or may not spot her around the DMV.

Scott Kegley, MCPL’s Information Technology Manager, was born in Washington DC and has worked in libraries his entire adult life. From 1979 through 1998 he worked with the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System starting as a page, then a circulation assistant and finally working most of his years there as the Integrated Library System Administrator. He graduated from Maryland U in Information Systems Management, minoring in Electro-Mechanical Engineering. He came to MCPL in 1998 and had a lead role in the data conversion and migration from the old CARL system to SIRSI. When he isn't working at MCPL, Scott maintains a small Domestic Duck rescue which includes Pepper the Black Swede, Leopold the Golden Layer, Suggie the Welsh Harlequin and Spice the Buff Orpington.
Adrienne van Lare is one of MCPL’s newest recruits! She joined in May as MCPL’s Workforce and Economic Development Coordinator to work on expanding programs geared toward job seekers, entrepreneurs and small businesses. Adrienne has been with the County for 8 years. Prior to joining MCPL, she worked as an international business development specialist in the County’s Department of Economic Development. In her spare time, Adrienne volunteers regularly with a local animal rescue organization and is always seeking out good foster and permanent homes for rescued animals. If you’re ready to add a feline or canine addition to your family, Adrienne can certainly help!
