On April 9, Friends of the Library, Montgomery celebrated the Magic of Libraries at our second annual Library After Dark fundraiser. The event was created to provide an opportunity for library supporters to come together to celebrate how our collaborative partnerships help our public library system to remain one of the leading library systems in the country.
Congratulations to Regina Holyfield-Jewett, who was honored as the 2016 Library Professional of the Year. Regina was joined by her children and grandchildren at the event, one of whom helped entertain the crowd as a magician’s assistant!
Regina was peer-nominated by Mary Ellen Icaza, MCPL’s Virtual Services Manager, for her exemplary leadership, customer service, and dedication to the county library system. She has been employed with MCPL for eight years and previously served in the Office of the County Executive.
All of the nominees for the Library Professional of the Year Award are recipients of MCPL’s annual Awards of Excellence. An Awards Committee reviews all of the nominations and recommends an awardee for approval to the FOLMC Board of Trustees. The inaugural award was given to Amy Alapati, children’s librarian at the Damascus branch.
Thank you to all of the MCPL employees who joined us for the evening including Director Parker Hamilton, Carol Legarreta, Eric Carzon, Barbara McClayton, and Rania Abijomaa. We look forward to an even more successful event next year!
