The 2015 Nebula Awards were announced on May 14 at the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America Conference in Chicago, IL. Find a full list of nominees and winners on the SFWA website.
The winner of the 2015 Nebula Award for a Novel was Uprooted by Naomi Novik. This retelling of Beauty and the Beast is set in a Russian-inspired land where magic is real and supernatural evil lurks in the natural world. When young Agnieszka is selected by the power sorcerer known as the Dragon to be his servant for ten years, she is terrified. She certainly never expects to discover magical abilities of her own or to become entangled in the Dragon's battle to protect their village from the encroaching magic of the Woods.
Binti by Nnedi Okorafor won the 2015 award for novella. Pursuing her education at the prestigious Oomza University means that Binti must leave her people and risk her life as she comes closer to a long-standing war that she has done nothing to cause.
Also awarded at the Nebula Awards ceremony were the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy, which went to Updraft by Fran Wilde, and the Ray Bradbury Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation, which went to Mad Max: Fury Road.
