Monthly Inspiration: Hugo Award Winners

So here is why I write what I do: We all have futures. We all have pasts. We all have stories. And we all, every single one of us, no matter who we are and no matter what's been taken from us or what poison we've internalized or how hard we've had to work to expel it—we all get to dream. N.K. Jemisin

When the Hugo Award Winners were announced on August 20, N.K. Jemisin became the first African American author to win the best novel award. This was made even more significant by the fact that efforts had been made by certain factions within the award voters to undermine the candidacy of female and minority writers. Jemisin's win, and that of Nnedi Okorafor for Best Novella, have been hailed as significant landmarks for African-American writers of fantasy and science fiction. Read the official complete list of winners on the Hugo Awards website.
