2016 Kirkus Prize

The finalists for the 2016 Kirkus Prize in Fiction, Nonfiction, and Young Readers' Literature were announced on September 20. The Prize is currently in its third year. All books that received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews and are published during the eligibility period are eligible for the prize. The winners will be announced on November 3.

in the darkroom by susan faludi coverThe fiction finalists include The Sport of Kings by C.E. Morgan. This is a family saga that incorporates a host of characters and is told against the backdrop of horse racing in Kentucky.

Among the nonfiction finalists is In the Darkroom by Susan Faludi. This book relates the author's journey to find the father who had disappeared from her life. The person she eventually locates bears little resemblance to the one who left and she is left to reconcile these people.

As Brave As You by Jason Reynolds is one of the Young Readers' finalists. The story is about two brothers who set out to prove how brave they are. It is a middle grade book.
