The Poolesville branch of MCPL is located at 19633 Fisher Avenue in Poolesville, MD. It has been serving the community in this location since 1991. The Poolesville branch has been managed by Steve Warrick since April 2014. Steve was formerly the assistant branch manager at the Olney branch. He has already learned a great deal about the community and continues to engage the members in branch activities.
“When you initially set foot in our Poolesville library, you feel a stab of dismay. It is not a grand architectural masterpiece like the newer libraries. It hasn’t got more books than you can read in a lifetime. It isn’t hushed and humbling. It’s sterile. It’s utilitarian. It’s small. And then, the Staff greets you brightly, with friendship and warmth and offers to help. Thus, over these few months, your brilliant Staff has turned our ugly duckling library into the beating heart of Poolesville, the Welcome Station of the town, a local information exchange, a warm and happy place.” ~ An excerpt from a letter submitted by a customer of the Poolesville Library
Yolanda Mongan (far left) is originally from Peru and began working with MCPL in 2011 as a Page at the Poolesville branch. Currently, she is the Aide at the small, friendly and cozy library. Since Yolanda was a little girl, her dream was to be a part of a library, because she loves books. She loves reading, and one of her favorite genres is biography. Yolanda’s favorite authors include Gabriel Garcia Marquez and, of course, Mario Vargas Llosa. When she is not working, she spends time with her two beautiful girls visiting others libraries.
Lisa Nachman (left) has worked for MCPL for over 26 years in various positions (Circulation, Adult, Children’s and Teen) and at various branches. She has currently been at the Poolesville branch as a children’s librarian since September 2015 and loves the small town community. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys reading (of course!), gardening, and dancing. She also happens to be the proud human of the sweetest cat in the world, a stray tuxedo she named Nook.
Mary Green (right) has been with MCPL for 20 years. In 1996 she began working as a Librarian I at the Olney Branch and stayed there until 2008. She then transferred to the Poolesville branch as the part-time Children's Librarian. Recently, Mary was promoted to full time Young Adult/Adult Librarian and enjoys working with the teen community. When not at the branch, Mary enjoys reading, sewing and watching her girls play sports.
Gina Orr (far right) began working for Montgomery County in 1978. She started working with MCPL in 1990 when the Poolesville branch was located at Poolesville High School. Gina assisted in the move to the current branch location when it opened in 1991. As an avid reader, some of her favorite authors are Mary Kay Andrews, Dorthea Benton Frank and Elin Hilderbrand. Away from the library, Gina enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she loves to shop, especially when Dooney has a great sale!
