MoComCon

Adult cosplay at MoComCon
It was Saturday, January 21, 2017, newspapers were being read; laptops were connected to Wi-Fi; Wonder Woman was on the scene; kids (and a few grownups) were having their faces painted; books were being checked out; panel discussions were in full swing; crafts were being made; the virtual reality “petting zoo” had many visitors; the Strike-a-Pose selfie machine was snapping away; students were studying; mini Batman, Supergirl, the Hulk and a Pokeman card were in the building; books were being perused; while Kylo Ren and a stormtrooper were on patrol.

I’m sure you’re wondering where this (and a whole lot more) took place? At MCPL’s first comic convention, MoComCon, held at our Silver Spring branch. It was an exciting 21st century event complete with hands-on workshops, comic art critiques, authors and illustrators, photo-op stations, and cosplay contest.

Comics display at MoComConMoComCon, open to the entire Montgomery County community free of charge, was organized and held to highlight the services, resources and materials offered by MCPL. This was an exciting way to attract new users, share our strong graphic novel collections for children, teens, and adults, and engage existing customers.

A huge thank you to all who made our first comic convention a tremendous success: all attendees, vendors, panelists, and staff. Until next year, “may the Force be with you!’
