The Silver Spring branch of MCPL has been opened at its current location, 900 Wayne Avenue, for nearly two years. On any given day, you will find this branch busy, busy, busy. The public PCs are always in use. Children are playing in the Early Literacy Center and using the AWE early literacy computers. Teens are connecting in a space just for them. Customers are faxing at the Business Center. Books are being perused and checked out. Visit the Silver Spring branch, there’s something for everyone!
Carly Beveridge, Lauren Martino, and Michelle Halber
Carly Beveridge is one of the Children’s Librarians at the Silver Spring branch. Before joining MCPL, she was an elementary school teacher for 7 years. She enjoys learning new songs and rhymes for storytimes and programs, but loves teachable moments with children, parents, and colleagues even more. Her colleagues at Silver Spring make a great team and every day brings something new. Outside of work, you can find her with her Jackrat (Jack Russell / Rat Terrier mix) Tristan by her side. She is an avid horse lover and hopes to get back into riding soon.
Eileen Fisher Valentine has been with MCPL since fall 2014. She started at Long Branch, then moved to Silver Spring in time to help close the old building and open the new branch. Eileen enjoys sharing favorite stories, songs, and rhymes with children and adults at storytime, and helping readers find the right book for them.
Michelle Halber is a part-time Children's Librarian, and has been working for MCPL since 2014. She loves storytime and helping the children and their parents discover new fun books and re-discover old favorites. She has three children, one each in elementary, middle and high school. She enjoys reading, dancing, and visiting the county parks with her family.
Lauren Martino was struggling through clinic work for a graduate program in communication sciences and disorders (speech therapy) when she read Jim Trelease’s Read Aloud Handbook, met a real life children’s librarian, and knew that she was destined for the public library. She enjoys rockin’ the uke, smiling at babies, swing dancing, watching reruns of Star Trek with her husband, and reading to her preschooler at home.
Sara de Nieto
Sara De Nieto joined MCPL in October 2014 as a part-time Library Desk Assistant at Silver Spring Library. Sara was born in Ecuador, and is the mother of two kids. When she is not working, she enjoys cooking, baking, and decorating cakes. Working for the government was always her dream job, the journey was not easy but she finally got it, and she loves it. She likes to be organized and read whenever it's possible.
