Leucadia Osorio and her family moved to the US in 2003. She is a part of the diverse community of Spanish speakers in Montgomery County. Leucadia has worked at MCPL since 2006, beginning at
Germantown, then
Silver Spring, then
Marilyn Praisner. She has worked as a substitute at branches while she was a part-time employee. In 2014, Leucadia became a full-time employee and transferred to Wheaton. She is now working at Wheaton Interim Library at the circulation desk, serving and delighting customers.
Jan Derry, Children’s Librarian II, has been with MCPL for over 12 years. Serving in
Gaithersburg,
Quince Orchard,
Silver Spring, and Wheaton, she has delivered storytimes, conducted school visits, crafts, food-and-literature themed events, and most recently, ukulele sing-a-longs for thousands of children and their families. Before entering library school, Jan worked in healthcare as a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse-Midwife, always serving people in that part of the life cycle that revolves around children and child-rearing. When not working or playing the ukulele, Jan spins, weaves, knits, dyes and generally tortures fibers into new, and hopefully, useful shapes. She has volunteered for the
Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival for 23 years and raised a new crop of silkworms every spring for about as long. Jan is happily married and has been for most of the past 39 years, with two adult never-been-arrested children to show for it. Her next project is waiting quietly for grandchildren. (Grits teeth.)
