Acting MCPL Director
Anita Vassallo |
As we say farewell, thank you, and best wishes to our outgoing director, Parker Hamilton, we are moving forward with the objectives of MCPL’s FY17-20 Strategic Plan. I have been entrusted by County Executive Leggett with ensuring we stay the course.
My long and varied career with MCPL has provided me with a wealth of experience, knowledge and understanding, not only about public libraries, but also about our County’s demographics, government, and communities. I began working for MCPL as a library page at the former Four Corners Library in Woodmoor. Later, I was a desk assistant at the White Oak branch followed by a library clerk position at the old Bethesda branch on Moorland Lane. I have also worked at Aspen Hill and Gaithersburg libraries. After earning a Master’s Degree in Library Science, I was a children’s librarian at the Kensington Park branch. I worked as a librarian at the Silver Spring, Gaithersburg, and Germantown branches, before being promoted to manager at the Davis branch, and then Public Services Administrator for IT Infrastructure, Digital Strategies and Emerging Technologies. As you can see, I am familiar with every area of MCPL and Montgomery County.
I will work to continue MCPL’s mission of offering free and equal access to services and resources that connect the people of Montgomery County to ideas and information that sustain and enrich their lives. Using the collective talent, knowledge, and creativity of employees at all levels, we will continue to assess community needs and interests so that we can support, encourage, and inspire our residents.
I look forward to working with MCPL staff, other County departments, our partners, and stakeholders in helping to create a more literate, connected, strong and vibrant, and delighted Montgomery County.
