There are great things happening at MCPL!
We have received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read grant in partnership with the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc. (FOLMC), Montgomery Community Media, and the Gaithersburg Book Festival.
The featured book, The Beautiful Things that Heaven Bears by Dinaw Mengestu, tells the story of the immigrant experience in Montgomery County and the Washington metropolitan area. Bringing this title through Big Read to Montgomery County provides the opportunity to celebrate the diverse immigrant experiences of many of our residents. These experiences enrich and benefit our County in so many ways. The book is available at your local MCPL branches in print and downloadable formats.
We are honored to have received this prestigious grant, and we look forward to working with our partners on community events that will be held from April to June 2018.
On November 20, MCPL launched LearningExpress Library, which offers free access to hundreds of online resources for academic and career success. With an extensive collection of digital resources, LearningExpress Library makes it easier to improve basic skills, pass a career licensing exam, achieve a high school equivalency credential, and prepare for college admissions tests.
MCPL will soon be offering Lynda.com. Lynda.com is a resource that will allow our customers to learn new skills online. It offers more than 6,000 courses in business, technology, and creative skills, taught by industry experts.
Also coming is IndieFlix. Customers will have unlimited access to over 8,000 streaming movies, documentaries, shorts, and classic TV shows which can be watched on any internet-connected device.
