Kensington Park Library |
The Kensington Park branch of MCPL is located at 4201 Knowles Avenue in Kensington. The branch was "refreshed' in 2016 and additional technology was introduced including loanable laptops for in-house use, a mobile device charging station, and Early Literacy and After School Edge Stations for children. The branch has a large meeting room that can be booked through the Community Use of Public Facilities. It also has two small collaboration spaces/quiet study rooms that can be reserved.
Marco Scappa has worked at various branches during his almost 17 year career at MCPL. He has worked at Germantown, Maggie Nightingale, Long Branch, and is now at Kensington Park. Marco has been on various committees, working on many projects for the system. He enjoys working in the children's department, is thrilled about doing storytimes for preschoolers, and strives to help children excel. When Marco is not at work, he is either outside relaxing on his deck (listening to music, sipping wine, and grilling), at the beach (walking the boardwalk), or traveling the world (he just got back from Iceland!). Say hi to him the next time you see him, if you can catch him (he's also known by children and adult customers at KP as "Mr. Marco”.)
Jamie Kim is an Adult Library Associate at KP. She grew up in Montgomery County. Libraries have always been a favorite place for her. She joined MCPL in 2014. She enjoys learning about the world through reading and sketching.
Before Candace Hixon started her career at MCPL she was a student volunteer helping children sign up for the Summer Reading program at Chevy Chase Library. Her volunteering experience made her passion for public libraries grow so much so that she began working in 2008 as a part time Library Assistant at the Marilyn J. Praisner branch and never looked back! Throughout her career, Candace has worked at 6 different MCPL branches, the most current being Kensington Park, as the Library Assistant Supervisor. Candace is a Silver Spring native who enjoys reggae music, painting, hiking, trying new foods, traveling to tropical places, and reading books of every genre.
Karen Miller was originally hired by MCPL to help staff the brand new Long Branch Library. While working at Kensington the first time, she had her older son, who is now 37 years old. Since then she has worked at Gaithersburg (during which time her second son was born), Damascus, and Germantown libraries. She has been a Children's, Reference, Adult Services, Sunday Services, Senior Librarian, and Manager. Two sons, 3 grandchildren, and many grey hairs later, she has returned to Kensington Park. She enjoys reading, gardening, swimming, Caps hockey, learning technologies, and traveling. Travel experiences include Russia, Peru, Norway, Finland, the Panama Canal, various countries in Europe, Canada, and many American states. It's always good to come home.
Emwedish Bekele has worked for MCPL for 11 years and has been at Kensington Park for 2 years. She is a proud first time grandmother of a beautiful baby girl.
One morning recently Winston Wong surprised his colleagues by walking around the library talking to himself and scanning with his phone. Turns out he was streaming views of Kensington Park Library and sharing his pride in his library with family in China.
